Shop vs. mobile: pick your lane
Six shops in Wisconsin Rapids work on RV fridges, and two of those are mobile techs. If your rig is parked at home or at a campground and won't start, a mobile call saves you a tow. If the problem is a cooling unit or a control board that needs a bench test, a shop with a parts counter makes more sense. Ask whether the tech has the part on the truck or if it's a two-trip job. That one question can save you a day. Murphy's On-Site RV Repair is the big mobile name here, with 249 reviews and a 4.8 rating. They also do roof, A/C, and awning work, so if your fridge died because of a roof leak, they can handle both.
What to expect at the counter
Three of the six shops do warranty work, which matters if your fridge is still covered. Greeneway RV is certified and handles insurance and body work, and Kunes Rapids RV has a service center plus a mobile option. DNL Recreation and BK Camper Repair round out the list. Ratings range from 4.5 to a perfect 5.0, but check review counts: BK has only four reviews, so a 5.0 there means less than Kunes' 200 reviews at 4.5. Ask about weekend hours if you're passing through on a Saturday. Kunes Rapids RV and BK Camper Repair both list weekend availability.
Before you book
Spring and summer fill up fast, so call ahead even for a diagnosis. Have your fridge model and serial number handy, and know whether it's a residential-style compressor unit or an absorption model. That changes who can fix it. If you're under warranty, get pre-approval before any work starts. And if your fridge sits in a slide-out, mention that, because access can affect the labor. Most shops will tell you straight if they can get to it. A quick phone call now beats a melted mess later.
