About Big Wheel Diesel & Wrecker Service
Big Wheel sits at the junction of I-12 and I-55 in Hammond, which is handy if you break down on either stretch. It runs 24-hour towing and roadside assistance, and the shop handles diesel engines, generators and trailers alongside RVs. They're an authorized Cummins dealer and say they're certified for heavy-duty work. A/C repair and computer diagnostics for all makes are on the service list. Reviewers bring up the staff more than anything else, and the word friendly shows up a lot. One RV owner had a leak underneath and said the tech was thorough and walked through the whole job. Another driver stuck at a distribution center praised how fast the crew showed up and how the mechanic found the problem right away. Towing and roadside calls get similar mentions for quick arrivals. It's not all praise. The shop holds a 4.0 across 189 Google reviews, and a few people describe towing bills as steep. One reviewer said a driveshaft wasn't reinstalled correctly after a tow, and another found the front desk unhelpful on parts pricing. Worth knowing before you call.
